Tempting Fate

I have a very heavy heart tonight.

A lot of us have pets, right? And a lot of those pet owners feel very strong connections to their pets.

In my case, we got our little doggie, Louis (pronounced the French way, like Louis XIV, which is his full name) one week after we got married. He's as old as we are married :)

Anyway, we spoiled him rotten. He went everywhere with us, slept in our bed, everything. He's called "granddog" to my parents.

Before we had Avery, we were very worried that he wouldn't get along with her. That he'd be jealous.

And he is. He mopes and is depressed and whines and is just very unhappy. He is a completely different dog than before. He doesn't want to play. He watches us play with Avery and if we can't drop what we are doing instantly to play with him, he gets mad, runs off and gets into something (pees, eats paper, etc.)

So we searched, and we found a very nice family willing to adopt him. We made the decision a week ago, but he leaves tomorrow, and I can't even look at him. I feel so unbelievably guilty.

There are two things pulling at me right now:

1) I feel like he is dying, even though he is not

2) I feel like by giving him away, we are expecting Avery to live, thus tempting the universe to show us who is boss

I can't stop crying.
After all of this, I just can't be good at saying good-bye.

I will miss you, baby bumblebee Louis.

That is such a hard decision but sounds like he'll be well looked after and I'm sure if you visit him, he'd be so glad to see you :) Dogs are gorgeous and such loyal friends... so must be hard to see him upset when you're attention is with Avery. I don't think you're tempting fate... you're just being a great mum b/c you care so much for both Avery and Louis xoxo

I'm so sorry, I can't imagine how difficult that decision must have been for you guys. Thinking of you and hoping Louise is able to transition smoothly into his new family ((hugs))

OH, we're in exactly the same boat. Message me if you want to chat. My dog is currently living with my mum, but she can't keep him forever. We don't know what to do, but this is not a pleasant situation as I ALWAYS said I'd never be that person...

It sounds like you are doing it for the right reason though. He is having trouble and is unhappy and he will be very happy in his new home... take heart in that. It is always hard to say good-bye

I'm so sorry that you're going through this, Christy. I'm sending you such big hugs - I've been pondering giving away our bunny, and it tears at my heart. Not the same thing, but it's so hard.

Oh I am so sorry, what a difficult decision. I always wondered how my dogs would react to a baby

I'm SO sorry. Reading this made me cry for you. Is there any other way? This is your baby dog...your friend. Could you contact a behaviorist? Oh sweetie....if you read my blog you know how I feel about my dog....I understand how sad you must be with this choice. ((HUG)) My only thought is that Avery will grow and the jealousy WILL fade...it truly will. Just like it would with a sibling....they do get over themselves...((HUG))

I'm new to your blog . Just read it all today. I'm so sorry for all the loss you've had. You are a very strong & inspirational woman. I haven't gone through what you have and I don't think I could have handled it as well as you did..Avery is a goregous girl. We were going to name our daughter Avery but decided against it when we realized her initials would be A.P.E..

What a hard choice. :( But I know you just want him to be happy and have the attention he needs.
